Welcome to our latest handy five-minute Sunday roundup capturing what’s been happening in West Leeds during the past week.
Our editor has been taking a rare break this week as the quiet summer holidays gives us chance to pause, but our bank of community reporters have still been busy keeping people up to date through our busy what’s on section and regular news updates. They’ve also been recording the latest podcast, with the new series coming out soon!
For those of you waiting to see the latest planning and licensing applications, the council’s online planning portal has been down since Friday teatime for maintenance and won’t be back up until Tuesday morning.
Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening in West Leeds during a quiet week:
Armley
We’ve been following the uncertain future of the former Stocks Hill Centre in Armley for a few years, and on Monday Don Mort reported how the former mental health centre is to be classed as a community asset following a successful bid to the city council.
It’s still early days but the Government’s £20m Pride in Place programme in Armley and New Wortley is shaping up nicely. Here’s the latest update and some key dates for your diary.
Buying a new school uniform each year can be an expensive business – here’s how you can get help from Leeds City Mission, who have free uniforms to give away. And the good news is that work on the new roof at Christ Church is now complete, after a superb five-year fundraising effort.

Horsforth Town Council has written to Leeds City Council’s planning enforcement team and West Yorkshire Police over the condition of a derelict building on Outwood Lane. Harry Ward reports.

Latest on the mass transit system which could come through West Leeds: Campaigners are urging new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to introduce “proper devolution” to ensure West Yorkshire finally gets a tram network.
