West Leeds residents are being invited to a series of free creative workshops in different community orchards.
Art in the Orchard is a project by Fruit Works Co-operative which aims to inspire connection to orchards through art.
Between August and October 2026, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practise sketching, painting, embroidery, singing and poetry writing while surrounded by fruit trees.
Each activity is thematically linked to orchards and will help to cultivate an increased awareness and appreciation of these valuable spaces.
Events in West Leeds include a beginners’ poetry workshop in Wortley on Wednesday, 2 September; Embroidery in Wortley on Sunday, 6 September; Watercolour florals, fruits and foliage in Bramley on Thursday, 10 September; crafting and collage with plants in Bramley on Sunday, 13 September; sketching and painting in Kirkstall on Thursday, 1 October; and group singing in Wortley on Sunday, 25 October.
A Fruit Works spokesperson said: “Through each creative activity, participants will develop a deeper emotional connection to orchards, alongside practical knowledge such as plant identification and seasonal awareness.
“Research shows that creative activities can help us engage with nature on a deeper level compared with common outdoor activities such as jogging or dog walking.”

The project is part of the Seasons of Culture Programme funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Council through the Leeds Cultural Investment Programme.
