Families with primary school children in West Leeds are being offered free school clothes.
Leeds City Mission has acquired a batch of good, clean second-hand school uniforms originating from primary schools in the Armley area. These are on offer to any family with children who need clothes to begin the new school year in September.
Compassion Centre Manager Sinclair Martin explained that local primary schools had donated their lost property which included many clothing items. The school clothes have been washed and ironed. They include dresses, skirts, trousers, sweatshirts, blouses, T-shirts and shorts.
He said that all parents needed to do was to turn up at the City Mission in Mistress Lane and choose items appropriate for their children. The clothes are free – nothing to pay.
He went on to say that this project was designed to help families whose budgets are under pressure. It also meant that good quality clothes would find a new lease of life thus reducing waste.
Mr Martin added: “Leeds City Mission is seeking to help and support families on the margins who are facing challenges and difficulties. In today’s world of rising prices and restricted budgets the advent of the new school year means even more expense. Parents can save precious money by accessing these clothes for their children.”
Leeds City Mission Compassion Centre is located in Mistress Lane diagonally opposite Armley Library and adjacent to Westerley Rise flats. It is open Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm. Parents are welcome to call in at any time and look through the clothing items displayed on tables at the centre.
