Families, staff, children and those who helped set up what is now the West Leeds Activity Centre 25 years ago came together this week to celebrate its birthday.
Sir John Battle, who was then the local MP, worked with councillors to secure the centre and its 17 acres of land next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal for children, young people, schools and youth groups in 2001. Today it offers outdoor activities including climbing, canoeing, archery, go-karting, abseiling and bushcraft skills.
Posting afterwards on its Facebook page, WLAC said it was encouraging to see so many young people and their families trying new outdoor adventures, building confidence and having fun at the celebrations.
“We’ve received lots of wonderful feedback from attendees, which is a testament to the hard work, commitment, and teamwork that went into making the day such a success.”
WLAC thanked Sir John, Councillors Andy Rontree, Kevin Ritchie, and Lou Cunningham, BARCA, Leeds Oral Health Team, Ormsheim Vikings, Breeze, colleagues from Leeds City Council, and all partners and supporters who helped make the event so memorable.
