Three bands, three gigs, two hours: Musical dash hits Leeds with LS18 Rocks

By Paul Jeeves

Young musicians from three bands will be rockin’ ‘til they drop this weekend as they race across Leeds city centre to each perform three gigs in three separate venues – all inside just two hours.

The mega-musical challenge comes as Horsforth-0based as LS18 Rocks takes over the Leeds Piano Trial. It will see the young rockers in each band racing against the clock to complete all three performances between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday.

Talented young musicians who form the bands Antivenom, Orange Lemonade and Solar Jets will all be traversing across the city with their guitars, drumsticks and microphones in hand to each perform full electric sets at three venues, delivering a non-stop playlist of singalong hits that are guaranteed to get the shopping crowds dancing.

Each venue is home to a Leeds Piano Trail piano, which all the bands will be incorporating into their performances.

The music will begin at 1pm with Orange Lemonade performing in Trinity Kitchen, Antivenom inside Leeds Kirkgate Market, whilst Solar Jets will be outside the HMV store in the St John’s Shopping Centre.

After each playing 20-minute sets, Orange Lemonade will unplug and head to the market, as Antivenom race to the St John’s Centre, and Solar Jets descend on Trinity Kitchen. Their final gigs will see Orange Lemonade rockin’ St John’s Centre, Antivenom entertaining diners inside Trinity Kitchen, whilst Solar Jets will finish with a stonking set at Kirkgate Market.

LS18 Rocks Musical Director Jonnie Khan said: “We’re going to be flying by the seat-of-our pants at times, I’m sure, but we’re certain it’s going to be a phenomenal day.

“The bands have all been rehearsing hard and are ready to put on brilliant shows for the crowds at each venue.

“The hard bit will be racing around the city – especially if any of our young rock stars get mobbed by fans. I’ve told them there will be no time for autographs and selfies until the final chord has rung out, though.”

The Leeds Piano Trail is an award-winning, free public arts initiative featuring artist-decorated pianos, unique piano sculptures, and planters placed throughout Leeds city centre. Supported by the Leeds International Piano Competition, it encourages public participation, offering everyone, regardless of ability, a chance to play music in public spaces.
