Road users urged to plan ahead for latest Dawsons Corner closures

Road users are being urged to ‘plan ahead’ for the latest raft of road and lane closures associated with major work at Dawsons Corner.

The £44 million scheme aims to reduce congestion, improve safety and create better routes for all road users on this key gateway.

Road users are being warned that from Friday, 24 April to Monday, 27 April a major phase of works will require significant traffic management changes and road closures.

From this… to this artists’ impression of the finished junction.

To enable the setup of this phase, the following includes:

  • Bradford Rd (B6157) eastbound lane closure (20 April to 24 April) in the run up to the weekend.
  • Full weekend road closure: Ring Road (A6120), Farsley and Bradford Road (B6157).
  • Two-way traffic routes remaining open: Bradford Road (A647) and Stanningley Bypass.
  • Access maintained: New Pudsey train station and Owlcotes Shopping Centre.
  • Diversions: Fully signed vehicle and pedestrian diversions throughout the weekend.

Residents, businesses and commuters are encouraged to check the project website and sign up for updates as the works progress.

Leeds City Council’s deputy leader and executive member for economy, transport and sustainable development, Councillor Jonathan Pryor, said: “The need to improve the junction is a major priority.

“It’s important not only to improve traffic flow and air quality, but also to support essential links to future housing growth and developments, and for people to be able to access jobs more easily with consistent travel times.

“It is pleasing to see that the works are progressing to the planned schedule, with the next major phase earmarked to take place over 24–27 April.

“We appreciate the works will lead to some disruption and recognise that it takes time to adjust to such a major change. We thank businesses, residents and bus operators for their patience, and we look forward to the long-term benefits once the scheme is completed.”

Two new images showing how Dawsons Corner will look once major upgrade works to the busy junction are complete have today been released by council chiefs.

The Dawsons Corner upgrade is scheduled to be completed in early 2027.

According to council figures around 57,000 vehicles and 1,200 pedestrians and cyclists travel through the junction daily.

  1. I’d like Leeds Council to release before and after travel times for this as I very much doubt its going to save anyone any time, we’ve probably already lost lots of time with the roadwork delays and its only costing the supposedly very hard up council iirc £13-14 million for their share of the £43 project.

Its absolutley silly on top of this that people from Pudsey area will still have to go down the slip road from Pudsey, go all the way around and back on themselves to get to Owlcoates.
