Injury hit Forge Way’s battling performance against Golcar

A depleted squad – hit by injuries, holidays, and three late no-shows – meant yesterday’s Forge Way Girls fixture with Golcar was always going to be an uphill challenge before a ball was even kicked.

That said, the attitude and commitment shown by the group set the tone for a really positive performance.

Forge Way started brightly and with real intent. While Golcar enjoyed more of the ball, we looked the more dangerous side, playing direct and asking questions every time we went forward.

Confidence grew as the half progressed, and the work rate across the pitch was excellent. Golcar took the lead in the 37th minute and added a second on the stroke of half-time, but our performance up to that point gave plenty of encouragement.

A constructive half-time team talk helped reinforce belief, and the response after the break was outstanding. Just five minutes into the second half, Kim showed great strength and composure to power through the defence and lift the ball over the advancing goalkeeper—fully deserved reward for our positive approach.

Even after Golcar added a third following a defensive mix-up, the players showed fantastic resilience and refused to let their heads drop. Eight minutes later, Adriana was brought down in the box, and Kim confidently converted from the spot to make it 3–2 and set up a really competitive final period.

With the game finely balanced, Golcar eventually added a fourth, but the scoreline doesn’t reflect the effort, organisation, and quality shown throughout.

Huge credit goes to the 12 players who were available—every one of them stuck to the task, worked tirelessly, and gave everything for the team. The makeshift defence performed admirably under pressure, well supported by a solid and hardworking midfield, and there were plenty of strong individual performances to be proud of.

The Tower Hill Player of the Match goes to our captain, Oli, for a commanding and committed display, leading by example throughout. A special mention also to Tara, who showed tremendous character in playing through the pain barrier with a bad back – an outstanding effort.
