Resurgent FC Farsley secured their fourth league win on the bounce with a 4-2 victory against a hard-working Ryburn United side.
A brace from Tyler Polwarth and goals from Lewis Hanse and Joshua Milner saw FC Farsley climb to sixth in the Yorkshire Amateur League in front of 370 supporters on the back pitch at Throstle Nest.
Farsley were without a game last week following Marsden’s withdrawal from the league. And the time spent on the training pitch clearly paid dividends with a disciplined and solid performance against a visiting side who had the lion’s share of possession but were unable to create much in the way of clear-cut chances.
The opening goal came after 11 minutes. Hanse danced through the Ryburn defence on the edge of the box before feeding Polwarth, who slotted it into the bottom-left corner.
Farsley doubled their lead ten minutes later. A block from the lively Aiden Hawkridge fell perfectly into the path of Hanse, whose effort somehow found the bottom corner, despite the Ryburn keeper scrambling to keep it out.
Ryburn saw plenty of possession, but struggled to find a way through a resolute FC Farsley defence until deep into first half injury time. A ball into the box was met by a strong hand from Farsley keeper Metcalfe, the ball was bundled in from close range via what appeared to be Farsley defender Hawkridge.
The second half saw Ryburn continue to probe without creating a great deal and Farsley looking f=dangerous on the break..
And Farsley made it 3-1 on 67 minutes when Polwarth grabbed his second. A good ball down the right found Hanse, who fed it back wide. Polwarth struck it firmly past the keeper. Three minutes later Josh Milner made it three with a decent strike.
The visitors hit a consolation goal two minutes from time with a fine chip from the forward over Metcalfe in Farsley’s goal.
Farsley played deeper and looked more solid than in recent weeks, looking dangerous on the break. They also managed to play some nice football at times as they continue to gel and develop as a team.
Next Saturday Farsley travel to Stanningley Old Boys for a cup tie.
