Horsforth: Deaf brothers chasing Team GB dream appeal for support

By John Baron

Two Horsforth brothers have launched crowdfunding appeals to help raise the £2,500 each needs so they can both play at the Under-23 World Deaf Football Championship in Serbia.

Cameron Bojas, 18, and his younger brother Zachary, 16, are both deaf and have been selected to represent Great Britain in Serbia in 2026.

They have both been playing competitive football since the age of four and have developed a real passion for the game.

Cameron previously represented Wales in 2024 and has gained valuable international experience. For Zachary, this will be his first opportunity to compete at an international level.

There is currently no government funding available for deaf athletes at either grassroots or elite level. As a result, both Cameron and Zachary need to raise £2,500 each to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, training, and registration.

Zach said: “I was so proud to receive a letter telling me that I have been selected to represent Great Britain in the Under 23s World Deaf Football Championship in Serbia. I am one of the youngest players selected (I’m only 16).

“The problem is that to get to Serbia, I need to pay £2,500 for travel, accommodation, training and registration. To be honest, I don’t have that kind of money.

“I wish the UK government would support deaf athletes but they don’t do that at the moment. That’s why I am turning to people I know and the general public.

“If you could give a donation (doesn’t matter if it’s small or large) I would really appreciate your generosity. Every donation helps me take one step closer to the competition.”

Cameron added: “The costs are more than I can manage alone. I need to pay £2,500 to participate in the games, and it is a huge amount of money for me.

“I am so excited that my brother, Zachary, has also been selected for the team this year. This is excellent news, but it means we have £5,000 to raise in our family, so the target feels even bigger.”

Both brothers have launched GoFundMe pages to raise awareness and reach as many people as possible:

The 2026 U23 World Deaf Football Championships will be held in Zlatibor, Serbia, from 11 to 23 May 2026.
