Farsley Celtic’s first home game of the new season takes place on Saturday, with Alfreton Town the visitors.

The last time Russ Wilcox’s side were in competitive action at the Citadel, there were joyous scenes as survival was secured on the final day of last season, despite a 2-0 defeat to Boston United.

It was a goalless draw at Alfreton’s Impact Arena in March that really kickstarted the Celts’ late-season run to avoid relegation, beginning a run of four games without defeat, and just one loss in seven.

It will be important for the Celts to get another positive result against the Reds, after the season got off to a disappointing start last weekend with a 4-0 defeat on the road at Leamington.

Reflecting on the start of the season, Manager Russ Wilcox said: “I was bitterly disappointed; the performance and result simply weren’t good enough. Leamington were the better team and deserved their victory.

“Our loyal supporters gave so much to support our lads despite the miles involved and they deserve much better.

“However, there are 45 games of the season to go. We obviously wanted a good start but it wasn’t to be, along with eight other teams who also lost on the opening day.”

TEAM NEWS
Bobby Johnson and Regan Hutchinson will both be hoping to return after missing our season opener.

Dave Syers did return to action last weekend, playing 25 minutes off the bench. However, Tom Allan will miss out as he serves the penultimate game of his suspension.
