Calverley Spring Clean: Villagers prepare to open garages for big sale

Back by popular demand! Calverley will once again be holding a village-wide garage sale event on Saturday 22 April, from 11am–3pm, writes Georgina Thompson.

The event is being organised by the two local primary schools – Calverley Parkside and Calverley C of E.

It will see villagers opening up their garages, gardens and driveways to sell a whole host of pre-loved items, from bikes to clothes, toys to furniture and electrical goods; as well as home-made crafts, baking and much more.

The Calverley Spring Clean has taken place three times before in 2012, 2013 and 2015 and was a tremendous success.

Every year over a hundred individual stalls have been held by local residents and the events have attracted crowds of people from the surrounding area and beyond who bagged some fantastic bargains.

This year’s event promises to be even bigger, with many other people keen to hold stalls who have been stockpiling their wares ready for this year’s garage sale.

We also have some great family entertainment organised including facepainting, candlemaking and pop-up storytelling; plus sponsorship from estate agents Hardisty and Co and local garage Calverley Autos.

Kelly Hobson, one of the event managers, said:

“The Calverley Garage Sale really has been a fantastic event in previous years. Lots of stallholders made some very healthy profits, as did the two local schools.

“Perhaps the best thing to come out of the day was the fantastic community spirit it unleashed. Local people, young and old, were out in their gardens and on the streets, talking to neighbours, earning a bit of money and having fun at the same time.

“Spring is the time we all traditionally want to clean up and clear out and the beauty of this event is that it’s incredibly easy for people to take part.

“There’s no loading up the car to travel to a car boot sale or tip, and the items are being recycled not going to landfill. So please come along to our wonderful village and be a part of what promises to be another fantastic day. We also have lots of support from local businesses and organisations who will be showcasing their wares.”
