Yarnbury RUFC beat West Leeds for the first time since 2014, avenging their heartbreak in December.
Yarnbury started brightly. Within minutes, hooker Finn Eastscott took a quick lineout throw to flanker James Longhawn, then received the return pass out wide before cutting back inside and feeding Longhawn to score the opening try. Danny Pound added the conversion for a 0–7 lead.
The visitors kept the pressure on and doubled their advantage when centre Max Lee powered through the West Leeds defence for the second try.
A West Leeds fumble then gifted Yarnbury their third. Lock Rossa Daly gathered and offloaded to onrushing winger Harrison Smith, who finished well with a try.
Yarnbury’s improvement on the reverse fixture was clear, and the bonus point arrived before the break.
Smith sent a long pass to fellow winger Jem Windridge-France, who touched down in the corner. Pound missed the conversion, but Yarnbury led 0–26 at half-time.
Windridge-France struck early in the second half, cutting through the West Leeds defence to claim his second try. The hosts responded to avoid finishing empty-handed, crossing for their first points of the game.
West Leeds were then penalised for offside and Pound punished them with three points.
Yarnbury soon returned to scoring tries, another dropped ball from the home side was kicked through and Smith won the chase to bag his second and leave West Leeds reeling.
Eastscott and Longhawn combined again for Yarnbury’s next, with Longhawn finishing off a well-worked move.
West Leeds hit back with a second try and conversion, but Yarnbury had the final word when Windridge-France completed his hat-trick before the final whistle.
It was an emphatic response from Yarnbury after last time out. They now face an away trip to Hullensians as they look to see out their final three games with wins.
