There were not enough chairs to sit on for the numbers of people who turned up to the Late Summer Open Afternoon at the Leeds City Mission (LCM) Compassion Centre in Mistress Lane, Armley.
During the course of the afternoon over fifty residents, supporters and friends visited the City Mission for what turned out to be an outstandingly successful afternoon.
Rain in the early morning of last Saturday was greeted with dismay by staff and volunteers at the Compassion Centre. However by late morning the rain had ceased being replaced by warm sunshine.
Good use was made of the adjoining grassed area. Volunteers set out tables and available chairs for visitors to sit and enjoy free food, drinks and ice-creams.
Throughout the afternoon visitors were able to browse in the pop up charity shop set up inside the Centre. Many of them snapped up packs of quality, cheap Christmas cards as they anticipated the festive season.
Visitors were also treated to a short talk in the mid afternoon about the various compassion projects of the City Mission amongst needy people in West Leeds.
Leeds City Mission Development Worker Andy Dalton thanked everyone for their attendance and support. He said: “This was a successful event. A good time was enjoyed by everyone. Over £230 was raised, which will help to finance our on-gong work and projects of Leeds City Mission.”
Leeds City Mission is a multi-church Christian agency which has worked with marginalised people since 1837 and seeks to meet the physical, social and spiritual needs of Leeds residents.
