Review: ‘Horrible Histories’ style Shakespeare play has Armley audience ‘roaring with laughter’

By Susan Johnson

The Rubbish Shakespeare Company performed an hilarious version of Romeo and Juliet at St Bartholomew’s Church, in Armley.

The performance was produced by the Red Letter Theatre Company which was founded in London in 1968 and moved to Leeds in the 1970s. It is a leading radical touring theatre company which specially targets youth audiences.

The show was well attended by young and old. The children added so much to the performance when they interacted with the players. So the three idiots who performed Shakespeare’s famous tragedy left us roaring with laughter. Compare it to Horrible Histories and you will get the idea of the performance.

Their next performance at St Bart’s is Saturday, 25 July at 2pm and is called
The Colosseum of Chaos.

It’s about two absurd Gladiators worshipping an onstage Amazon Alexa, should be hilarious. Tickets are pay what you decide at the end, by cash or card.
