Co-op Academy Priesthorpe is joining forces with Co-op Farsley to support The Red Box Project in fighting period poverty.

Many female students across the country are unable to attend school during their period, consequently falling behind with their studies due to not being able to afford basic sanitary products.

The idea behind The Red Box Project is simple, a red box is located in community spaces for donations of sanitary products, these are then distributed within schools to students most in need.

The box will be placed in Farsley Co-op.

Priesthorpe governance officer/Co-op co-ordinator Jane Pickering said:

“The hope is that the model link developed between ourselves and our local Co-op Pioneer, Carol Gray, Farsley Co-op, can then be replicated throughout our Trust, linking our Academies with their local community stores.”
