Late drama denies Farsley Celtic at the death

Farsley Celtic were denied another win on the road after a 95th-minute Warrington Town equaliser saw the game finish 1-1.

Clayton Donaldson’s first goal for the Celts looked to have given the visitors all three points before the home side scrambled home a late, late equaliser.

The first half was a tale of a goal and a penalty save.

The Celts were comfortable for the most part in a much-improved showing after their 4-1 home defeat against Brackley on Saturday. And they went ahead on 36 minutes.

Clayton Donaldson opened the scoring with his first goal of the season with a sublime glancing header which looped over the Warrington goalkeeper and into the net following a long throw.

Just five minutes later Warrington were awarded a penalty following a foul in the box. Farsley keeper Zan Luke Leban saved smartly down to his left from Dixon to help his side lead at the interval.

Earlier Leban had made a strong save at the near post to deny Isaac Buckley-Ricketts.

The second half saw Farsley’s Connor Branson hit the post early on before the home side came more into the game, with Leban making several excellent saves as Warrington pressed.

Cheered on by the vocal backing of the travelling Celts fans, a well-organised Farsley defended well and looked to have weathered the storm as the clock ticked down.

But as five minutes of injury time came to an end, Warrington grabbed an equaliser with almost the last touch of the match. A header from their goalkeeper Dan Atherton ricocheted off a couple of players and into the Farsley net.

It was tough luck on The Celts, who can be proud of a battling performance which had many positives.

Farsley Celtic: Leban, O’Brien, Smith, C Atkinson (C), Misambo, Tunchatchawam, Donaldson, Watson, Forshaw, Branson, Chapman. Subs: Carroll, Leverett, Allan, Ameho, Wilson.
