In previous years the WLD has reported on Pudsey Allotments and Cottage Gardeners’ Association Spring Show. It was to be no different this year, with the show due to be held on 28 March.
Regrettably, the show has now been cancelled.
The society has cited a “shortage of enough experienced volunteers to put on an event of this size.”
This was a difficult decision to take, as over the past 103 years the society has run 161 shows, and cancellations have been few; previously only the outbreak of WW2 and Covid have prevented the show from being held.
The society has apologised for the late cancellation to all exhibitors, members, visitors and supporters.
However, the society has hoping to hold a plant sale on 9 May 2026. Their Summer Show will be on the 5 September 2026.
In the meantime, the society wishes to remind everyone that the Pudsey Gardeners’ shop is open on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. They always need volunteers for the shop.
To ensure that these events are held the society has appealed for new volunteers to
come forward. It will be launching a recruitment campaign shortly.

I don’t think that it is just the Spring Allotment Show. The Men’s Forum has advertised for new members, with only one or two coming forward. There seems to be a mallaise, where nobody is interested in getting involved any more. When people are prepared to give up their time to help and organise things, it is sad that there seems to be no interest.
