A popular cafe in Kirkstall has applied to Leeds City Council to extend its opening hours until 10pm.

Christopher Beech and Ms Courteney Hager, who are the owners of Mogs
Vegan Café
on Kirkstall Lane, want to open Monday to Sunday from 10am to 10pm.

They are currently restricted to open from 7.30am-7.30pm Monday-Friday, 8am-7pm Saturdays and 10am-5pm Sundays and Bank Holidays.

A planning statement accompanying their planning application to Leeds City Council said:

“Throughout the whole of the time that they have operated the business … it has operated until 10pm every day without complaint. It is understood that it was similarly operated by the previous business daily until 10pm.

“We would add that the applicants were not aware of the hours of operation restrictions on the premises and these only became known when they applied for a premises licence.

“As soon as they became aware of this the café was closed outside the permitted hours and they immediately took action to address the problem, which has prompted this application.”

The restaurant, which seats 16 people, says most people arrive by foot, bike or public transport and not by car. It also offers a limited takeaway service.

The application currently has 13 letters of support from neighbours and customers.
