Calverley and Farsley Labour Party has selected Kathryn Penny as its candidate for
the May 2026 Leeds City Council elections.
Kathryn, who has lived in Farsley for 10 years, brings extensive experience in education,
community engagement and cultural leadership.
She is a long-standing Labour member and has been involved in community initiatives and grassroots campaigning across the ward.
She said: “I am honoured to have been selected to stand for election in the community I am proud to call home. Over the past decade, my family and I have experienced the amazing community spirit and opportunities here, but also seen first‑hand the challenges
residents face.
“I will work tirelessly to represent every part of this ward, ensuring every voice is heard. I
care deeply about road safety, sustainable development, affordable housing, youth
services and protecting our green spaces. I want Calverley & Farsley Ward to be a place
where everyone can thrive.”
Kathryn Penny will contest the Calverley & Farsley ward at the May 2026 Leeds City Council elections, which will see one councillor elected in each of the authority’s 33 wards. The seat is currently held by Conservative Andrew Carter.

I’ve never once seen this long running labour party activist in a Leeds City Council meeting in the public gallery at City Hall.
I don’t think labour will be popular in May if Keir Starmer is still the leader of the party.
Maybe if Tyler Callum Wilson-Kerr spent some time in Calverley and Farsley he’d have seen Kathryn Penny out and about doing things and making a difference. Given he lives over in Aberford where he’s a Parish Councillor he probably doesn’t have much local knowledge about West Leeds and Pudsey. As for his comments on the national political scene we can take his views with a pinch of salt – he ran for Parliament in a recent By Election and finished 12th from 13 on O% of the vote – behind the Monster Raving Loony Candidate.
Eyup.
I’ve got you Spooked. Clearly.
You wouldn’t be a labour party member/ “activist” would thee? ‘Av bin around plenty of Farnsley and Wortley- it’s got pockets of propper deprivation and atrocious QOL Social/Health/Economic Life Expectancies Office of National Statistics indicstors compared to less deprived parts of leeds like Headingley or Alwoodley.
West leeds and Pudsey has voted mostly Labour for decades, and has seen nothing but decline, lots of workers paying low return Trade Union dues, and obvious de-industrialisation.
Why has Leeds labour not worked quicker to fix and repair the football pitch and grounds for Farsley Celtic, for example?
You attack anyone who points out malign Leeds problems, or asks questions, or someone who *offers you solutions all the time*
Labour are hated nationally and regionally and locally, so you’ll all be out on the kerrb come May irregardless of your misguided attacks.
Thysen ‘avin a go at me cos your precious Heathen False Idol Labour are needing some Council from a Cricial Friend, just makes observers see you labour lot for what you are- bunch of snowflake bullies paid off by Israeli Lobbyists and Financeers.
‘appy Guy Fawkes Night, fella.
Genuinely interested why you think council tax payers’ money should be spent on bailing out Farsley Celtic, which is a privately run business?
Cos I think it’s the responsibility of Government to provide things for citizens to enjoy.
Like thousands of loyal families support Celtic, and it costs them all a lot of money to travel to their current place they train.
So if Leeds City Council or West Yorkshire Devolved Combined Authority were to speed up a financial survival package of funds for repairs to Farsley Celtic, it will literally immediately as soon as the 1st game back, save Celtic fans and thousands of people in western Leeds a lot of money in petrol, bus, train Fares etc.
Then if Council taxpayers do this, it allows local business & institution Farsley Celtic to be able to get our of their nightmare and have a Base or Castle so to speak where they can think of private financing and fundraising via advertisements, market day boot sales, letting schools and colleges nearby have Sports Days & PE Sessions when it’s not being used by the team etc.
There’s loads of good reasons to do it man, you just gotta zoom out a little bit and think broadly.
I speak broad Yorksher, so thinkin’ broadly i’nt much of a problem for me. Ye gotta imagine the wider effects and consequences of a prime local stadium bein out of action for nearly 2 years.
So yeah John pal, that’s what i think. It’s self evidently a good idea.
In ma view;
All Government, even Local Governments must provide for their people. Surely we agree ‘ere at least?
What things, what difference? Seriously; floors yours;
Advertise the candidate and why the candidate is a logical choice and why the party and the candidate deserve the votes of observers? Go on, and try doing it without an attack though I understand thats difficult for legacy big political parties. I’m Independent.
Wow, Cllr Tyler Callum Wilson-Kerr can’t even spell Farsley. Or is he confusing Farsley and Farnley? The area has been predominantly Conservative for decades, what’s he on about?
Stephen
You really are deluded in your support of your Labour Party.
They are failing on every level abut you still try to smear people who have the temerity to point this out.
Maybe you should pay more attention to the shortcomings of Rachel Reeves and West Leeds Labour councillors’ opposition to improving places like Stanningley.
Who have I smeared? Look at my post about Tyler Callum Wilson-Kerr, are these not true facts? Please give me an example of anything in my post which is factually incorrect? I’ll wait!
Stephen, tha’s pathetic. And you being nasty for no reason, is why people *hate* labour are you will be dead as a political party.
You’re entire party will be killed off. The people are angry at your lies, your corruption, and your refusal to fix the immigration crisis and willingness to follow racist Nigel farage talking points.
You are dead as a Political Force. Labour will be killed and all of you wiped out as political activists
Labour isn’t working.
You say labour are good.
They are not.
They are bad.
L is for Labour,
L is for Lice
L is for Liar.
Having read the comments here, particularly those from a Cllr, I’m disappointed at the level of debate which at times sinks to ‘primary school level’ name-calling.
I’m a local resident and voter who isn’t swayed too much by the national picture, instead I like to concentrate on efforts made in the local community. There is no doubt that Cllr Carter is a forced to be reckoned with, his long standing service is generally respected by many resident, irrespective of the way they choose to vote.
Equally, Peter and Tim, Labour Cllrs both seem very active in the area, especially around the new developments at Dawson’s corner and Richmond Road.
Let’s see what this new candidate has to offer and what she prioritises for the local area. It’s also refreshing to have a female voice back on the candidate list.
In the meantime, I won’t be swayed by childish tit for tat debate – especially one with an attempted parochial & somewhat condescending tone!
Right back at ye-
Calm down woman. Labour won’t win Farsley cos everyone in the UK is after Starmer’s Head- winter fuel payment cruelty, freezing old people, starving children refusing to Abolish 2 child benefit cap.
Doing nothing to improve British Reproduction rates, no answers to the Aging Population crisis, national insurance rises which Kneecapped British Businesses- people hate labour and millions are in a Proto-Revolutionary Violent Mood. Against Labour and the UK Crown. See Andrew and Epstein-Mandleson-Starmer links.
And the Green Party dude wont win cos he wants Leeds United’s Elland Road Stadium to close, or at least he wants to delay the upgrades and lebensraum, I mean expansion of living space for Leeds fans and community activities with Yorkshire charities local to Leeds etc
Vote Independent or you’re gonna be Mugged Off by these political parties and robots like the anti-human labour activist complaining and being a Mardy Bum about why she is morally superior to normal Leeds folk.
Hazel, the Burgouise don’t survive revolutions either, get on the people’s side. NOT The Southern English London based Political Parties.
Sic Semper Tyrannis, ad Astra.
