Pudsey: Charity’s ‘positive conversations’ over new home

By John Baron

A Pudsey charity which could become homeless in January has identified a potential new base – and has had ‘positive conversations’ over a move.

Pudsey Wellbeing Charity announced in July that it had been given notice to leave the wellbeing centre in Robin Lane.

The charity facilitates around 17 groups, which are run by over 40 volunteers.

In its latest newsletter, Pudsey Wellbeing Charity said: “Further to our announcement, we have identified a venue in Pudsey and are currently having positive conversations around forming a lease to start in the new year. Due to the process involved around drawing up a lease we are unable to confirm the name of the venue at this current time.

“We appreciate the ongoing patience and support of all of our volunteers and visitors and want to reassure you that we will release more details as soon as we have them.”

Chair of Trustees Jill Huggins added the charity is in a ‘solid position’ to continue providing its services to the community.

She said: “While we celebrate our achievements, we are still mindful of the challenges ahead. The coming year presents many financial hurdles with decreased revenue and increased costs, but we are also confident it will offer new opportunities to grow.

“Pudsey Wellbeing Charity is fortunate to have the support of our wonderful volunteers, staff, and visitors. Together, we will continue to make a meaningful difference. Our vision for the future is bright, fuelled by optimism and a steadfast belief in the power of community.”

Ms Huggins thanked the charity’s staff team and trustees, who have ‘worked tirelessly, going beyond expectations to ensure the smooth operation of the charity, especially in such uncertain circumstances’.

The initial idea for the charity came from the partners at Robin Lane Health and Wellbeing Centre, who purchased a derelict building on the same site as the medical centre. They wanted to create a space for the Pudsey Wellbeing Charity to run groups and activities for the local community.

The charity has been running since 2013. It aims to end isolation by providing peer support to the residents of Pudsey and surrounding areas.
