Leeds City Mission is organising a summer garden event for local people this coming Saturday, 28 June.
On offer is relaxing afternoon in enjoyable sunshine with free ice creams, and liquid refreshments under shady trees on its adjacent lawn in Mistress Lane, Armley.
At 1.30pm invited guest and ex criminal Geoffrey Bryant will tell the story of his journey out of crime and drugs.
Geoffrey served time in a number of prisons in the UK – including Armley Jail, just along the road from the City Mission Compassion Centre.

He will recount how he led a lifestyle of rebellion, petty crime and pleasing himself. However his life took an unexpected turn when he was released from jail after what turned out to be his final sentence.
A relative invited him to attend a Christmas Carol guest service at her church. It was a turning point as he realised the folly of what he how he had been living and that he could make a new start in life. He found that the gospel message could bring him new hope and a new life.
Geoffrey has never looked back from that moment. He has undergone an amazing transformation. Now married with three children he subsequently made a career for himself as a Gas Safe Engineer and Plumber. In his spare time he fulfils a speaking role in churches and other organisations telling his story.
The event is free and all are welcome.
Leeds City Mission has worked among prisoners and ex-offenders for many years. Over its 188 year history LCM has reached out with practical compassion and hope to those who have transgressed the law of the land. LCM employs a prison chaplain amongst its staff team.
City Mission Development Worker Andy Dalton concluded “A similar event like this one was organised last year and proved highly popular with many people turning up.
“The summer garden event on Saturday afternoon is well worth attending. In addition to the inspiring talk, delicious ice creams and liquid refreshments – there will also be an opportunity to browse the stock and books in the adjoining charity shop”
