Pudsey theatre group members ‘break a leg’ for dementia

By Michelle Corns

From the humble beginnings at Swinnow Community Centre, a Pudsey-based mental health theatre group are performing at the prestigious Leeds Playhouse on 7 July with ‘Lost Time’.

The award winning Invisible Pain Theatre Company is a mental health theatre group, established by actor Gerica McMullen who wanted theatre to be accessible. It is inclusive to people with mental health issues.

The performance – an anthology of music, dance and theatre – is part of their open season, which invites community theatre groups to gain the experience of performing on the big stage.

The theme is Alzheimers and Dementia and intends to highlight the struggle for the patient as well as showing the devastating impact that this condition has on other family members and carers.
