Horsforth residents enjoyed a lively performance as Phoenix Band Wakefield kicked-off the ‘Summer Bands in Leeds’ series of free musical events in Horsforth Hall Park.
Supported by Horsforth Town Council, this was the first of three summer concerts at the park, as part of a city wide program of musical performances.
The band, which included over 20 musicians, took to the bandstand and entertained the crowd for two hours, with a variety of popular music, including Elbow’s ‘One Day Like This’, Disney hit ‘A Whole New World’ and ‘Memories’, made famous in Cats, the musical.
Mike and Judy, of Church Mount, Horsforth, came down to listen after seeing the event advertised. Judy said: “It’s the first time we’ve come to this, and we really enjoyed the variety of music. I particularly liked Mack the Knife.”
The series of concerts started on Sunday, 15 June and will continue over the summer. The next events in Horsforth are scheduled for Sunday, 13 July and Sunday, 3 August, with both performances starting at 2.30pm. No prior booking is needed; people can just turn up and enjoy the music.
Gill Garvani, Chair of Horsforth Town Council, said: “Horsforth Town Council is delighted to support this year’s Summer Bands series in Horsforth Hall Park.
“It is another wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to come together to enjoy an afternoon in our lovely park. I hope the weather is kind and the Horsforth community and beyond have the pleasure of listening to some talented brass bands.”
