Help plan Burley Park’s 125th anniversary celebration

A meeting to plan celebratory events to mark the 15th anniversary of Burley Park is being held – and anyone interested in helping out is welcome to attend.

Volunteers from the Friends of Burley Park are holding the open meeting on Tuesday, 14 January at 6.30pm, in the Burley Park room at the Cardigan Centre, Cardigan Road.

Find a copy of the November planning meeting minutes here.

The main agenda item will be agreeing details around the events suggested for this year and ensuring the Friends can deliver them.

A spoksperson said: “If you have not been to the previous meetings, but would like to be involved and help with the organisation of the forthcoming activities as part of the 125th celebrations, please do come along on Tuesday.”

Burley Park history

In 1899, Leeds Corporation purchased the 14.5 acres of land to provide recreational facilities for the ever increasing population around Burley and the park was originally constructed with a sandpit, play equipment, a cricket pitch, and bowling green.

It was then opened to the public on 8 September 1900.
