13 Hallowe’en events and activities for West Leeds families

Looking for somewhere spooky to celebrate Halloween this year with your family? Deb Ward from West Leeds Mumbler has hunted out the best child-friendly events and activities across our area.

There’s something here for all ages, including half term activities.  Be sure to book in advance though, as places fill up quickly.

1. Halloween Sensory Story Time at Honey Pottery, Horsforth

When: Tues 31st October, 11.00am-12.15pm or 13:00-14.15

Where: Honey Pottery, 131 New Road Side, Horsforth, Leeds LS18 4QD

Cost: £10 per child

 

Join Make Sense Stories for a spooky sensory story before painting a Halloween themed figure and enjoying free play and singing.  Recommended age –  Pre-school.

2. Halloween Fun at Grump’s, Farsley

When:  Daily from 24th -27th October, 12pm-2pm

Where: Grumpy’s Woodfired Pizza & Bar, Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley LS28 5UJ

Cost: Free, with the exception of pumpkin carving which is £2

Go along to Grumpy’s for lunch and you can enjoy free kids Halloween themed crafts, alongside yummy pizza.  On Friday, they will also be running pumpkin carving.  Recommended age – All ages

3. Kids Halloween Party, Farsley WMC

When:  27th October, 7:00 am – 9:00 pm

Where: Farsley Working Men’s Club, Back Lane, Farsley, Pudsey LS28 5EU

Cost: Free entry

Ghoulish games and spooky fun with DJ Andy. Party food for little guests and prizes for the spookiest costume.  Recommended Age – 5+ years

4. Rainbow Factory Not-so-spooky Halloween Special, Farsley

When: Tues 31st October, 10am-3pm

Where: Rainbow Factory, Springfield Commercial Centre, Bagley Lane, Farsley LS28 5LY

Cost: £5 per child when booked online in advance.  Includes access to 2 activities.

There’ll be magical activities for little ones at The Rainbow Factory ranging including: Day of the Dead sugar-skull making, wizard & witch training, freaky face-painting and more. Plus, FREE activities such as storytelling, games, themed quiz and story dice.  Recommended age – 2-10 years only.

5. Kirkstall Leisure Centre Halloween Party

When:  Saturday 28th Oct, 3.00m-4.30pm

Where: Kirkstall Leisure Centre, Kirkstall Lane, Leeds LS5 3BE

Cost: £4.50 per child.

Have a spooktacular time at this fancy-dress Halloween Disco with music, lights and traditional party games.  Booking is advised. Recommended age – 3-8 years only.

6. Spooktacular Half Term at Oxygen Freejumping, Kirkstall

When: 16th-31st October

Where: Oxygen Freejumping, Cardigan Fields, Leeds LS4 2DG.

Cost:  £9.45 per person.  Quote MUMBLER when booking before the 31st October and receive 20% off too.  T&C’s apply.

From 16th-31st October 2017, Oxygen Freejumping Park will be Halloween themed with terrifying trampoline additions, games, arts & crafts and more!  Recommended age – 4+ years

7. Halloween Disco at Gott’s Mansion, Bramley

When: Sat 28th Oct, 11am-3pm

Where: Gott’s Mansion, Gott’s Park Golf Course, Armley Ridge Road, Leeds LS12 3NP

Cost:  Free

Visit Gotts Mansion café from 11am until 3pm for a Halloween Party, with haunted music, Halloween games like apple bobbing, fancy dress competition, Halloween crafts and pumpkin carving (you can take these home with you, but please note the pumpkins are in limited supply).  Recommended age – All ages

8. Halloween Fun at Swinnow Children’s Centre, Pudsey

When: Tuesday 24th Oct, 10am – 11.30am

Where: Swinnow Children’s Centre (school’s downstairs hall), Swinnow Rd, Leeds LS13 4PG

Cost: £2 per family.

Join Swinnow Children’s Centre for some Halloween fun!  The spooky session will include jelly play, creepy custard, slime, arts and crafts and much more!  Face painting will be available at £1 per child.  Dress up is encouraged.  Recommended age – Pre-schoolers

9. Halloween Half Term Fun at Leeds Industrial Museum Armley Mills, Armley

When:24th-29th October, 1pm-4pm each day

Where: Leeds Industrial Museum, Armley Mills, Canal Road, Leeds LS12 2QF

Cost: Adult – £3.80, Child – £1.90 (Children under 5 years are free)

Leeds Industrial Museum are putting the happy back in Halloween this half term holiday.  Pop in to explore Halloween superstitions and traditions as we unlock secrets of this ancient holiday with real Wiccans and witches from Leodis Pagan Circle. Learn about herbal lore with gardening experts Hyde Park Source.  Carve pumpkins and make traditional wands.  Visit the website to see specific activities for each day.  Recommended age – 4+ years.

10. Happy Halloween Half Term at Abbey House Museum, Kirkstall

When: 24th-27th October, 10am – 12pm and 2pm – 4pm

Where:  Abbey House Museum, Abbey Walk, Kirkstall, Leeds LS5 3EH

Cost: Adult – £4.50, Child £2.30 (Children under 5 years are free)

If you’re looking for a spine-tingling fun this Halloween, head to the Victorian street at Abbey House Museum, which has undergone a spooky makeover! Go along for FREE themed family fun all week. Make your own monster, witch or vampire or create the creepiest crawly! Join in magic potion making silly science or solve a murder mystery!  Recommended age – All ages.

11. Enchanted Abbey! (family Interactive Halloween Event) at Kirkstall Abbey

When:  Tues 31st Oct, 5.00pm-7.00pm

Where: Kirkstall Abbey, Abbey Road, Leeds LS5 3EH

Cost:  Children – £5.00, accompanying adults free

An exciting opportunity to meet Airela the River Nymph, Smoke the Dragon, the Mad Abbot and all Airela’s animal friends at the Enchanted Abbey.  Each of Airela’s animal friends has a task for children to do…complete it and they receive a piece of their magic wand. Recommended age –  4–11 years

12. Trailblazer Halloween Trick or Treat, Hanover Square Park

When: Sat 28th October, 7.00pm–8.00pm and 8:00pm-9.00pm

Where: Hanover Square Park, Off Burley Road, Leeds LS3 1AW.

Cost: Tickets £3.50 each available from the Trailblazer Website

Come together and celebrate Halloween and give the kids a night to remember, with Trailblazers.  The park will be fully decorated and 100’s of pumpkins will light the trail.  Complete with spider tunnel, bat cave, spooky graveyard, games and music.  Recommended age – 4+ years

 

13. Day of the Dead Family Scrap Workshop, Farsley

When:  Fri 27 October: 14:00–15:30

Where: Scrap Creative Reuse Art Project, Paradise Street, Farsley, Leeds LS28 5UJ

Cost: £5 per child

Celebrate the Day of the Dead at SCRAP by creating a beautiful felt decoration and adorn it with sequins and other scrappy embellishments. Wall hangings, funny skulls, whatever floats your boat at Halloween time.  Recommended age – 3+ years and their parents
