Farsley Celtic’s FA Trophy tie at Gateshead FC has been postponed due to heavy rain – just 40 minutes before kick off.
A statement issued by Gateshead said: “The match officials opted for an inspection after the away team’s arrival, with the decision ultimately taken to postpone the game due to heavy rain affecting the pitch through the day.
“The club appreciates the efforts of today’s match officials in doing their utmost to allow the game to be played as planned, to the desire of both clubs. Details on the re-arranged date will be confirmed as soon as possible.”
This morning Gateshead had posted that no inspection was due at the time.
A social media post by Farsley Celtic added: “The referee has inspected the pitch and confirmed it is not suitable for play. Unfortunately, our FA Trophy third round tie against @GatesheadFC will not go ahead today. We will update you on rescheduling as soon as possible.”
The match has been rearranged for Tuesday, 10 December at 7.45pm.
