Tadcaster Albion 0 Farsley Celtic 2

Farsley Celtic progressed to the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over local rivals Tadcaster Albion 2-0 on a beautiful autumn day at the i2i stadium, writes Thomas Ritchie.

Farsley started the game the brighter and, after Liam Shepherd clattered into Richard Marshall, The Celts were awarded a penalty.

James Walshaw stepped up and coolly slotted the ball home straight down the middle.

Midway through the half Walshaw almost doubled Farsley’s lead, as he turned on a sixpence and fired just wide of the upright.

Farsley continued to press and Aaron Hardy had a speculative effort from long range which fizzed inches over the bar.

Shortly before half time Tadcaster had their first real opportunity, but Graeme McKibbin made a smart save to deny Tom Corner.

Tadcaster made a calamitous start to the second half as ‘keeper Charlie Murphy dropped the ball straight at the feet of Paul Walker, who tapped home into an empty net.

Walker then could have had a brace but his effort was tipped over the bar by Murphy as he tried to atone for his error.

Walker then fired a terrific free-kick goalwards that just missed the target as it went over the bar.

Midway through the half Tadcaster had a route back into the game as Ryan Serrant felled Corner in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. However a fantastic save from McKibbin denied Corner the goal and maintained Farsley’s two-goal advantage.

Lewis Nightingale then could have secured victory as he was played through after a sublime pass by Walker only to see his shot fly over the bar.

The final chance of the game fell to Tadcaster in injury time, however McKibbin once again made a fine save to deny the consolation goal from Corner.
