Concerns grow over Bramley phone mast proposals

By Daniel Brabban

Concerns are growing over plans for a 20 metre high mobile phone mast, which could be erected on a west Leeds street.

Councillor Kevin Ritchie (Lab, Bramley & Stanningley) and Leeds Highways Team have raised concerns regarding the construction of a 5G mast on Outgang Lane, near Hollybush Primary School.

The mast, as previously reported, would provide network coverage for mobile operators EE and H3G.

Cllr Ritchie has submitted an official objection to the council, highlighting issues including the proximity to Hollybush Primary School, and the impact construction would have on such a busy area.

Councillor Ritchie said: “It will be an intrusive presence and detrimental to the street scene, specifically to users of an adjacent bench which currently has a pleasant unobstructed view across Kirkstall Valley.”

In a report published, Leeds Highways raised similar concerns to the 5G mast saying it would impede a busy pedestrian pathway near the school which needs clear access.

The report also raised concerns that maintenance vehicles would block the pathway at busy times.

Both Cllr Ritchie and Leeds Highways have argued that an alternative location should be explored for the mast’s construction.

The applicant, Mobile Broadband Network Ltd (MBNL), said it would replace an existing mast on top of Raynville Court, a block of flats due to be demolished.

Consultation is ongoing, with comments to be submitted by Wednesday, 6 November. A decision is due by Saturday, 29 November.

Full details of the plans and comments can be made here.

    • Who is the landowner of the field, and what if they won’t consent to having telecommunication equipment and associated underground power/fibre cabling installed on it?

  1. Already a massive one at St Catherine’s Mill so why another so close by? It will just be another backhanded job for the planning dept anyway!!!
