Calverley Old Hall wins top restoration award

By Anne Akers

The Landmark Trust, which owns the historic Calverley Old Hall, has won the Restoration or Conservation Project of the Year at the Museums and Heritage awards held in London.

It was also highly commended in the Community Engagement Project of the year category.

Judges praised the £5million project, which transformed the 12th-century almost-derelict building into a place for people to holiday and a facility for local people.

They said: “Calverley Old Hall is an equally beautiful, sustainable, and comprehensive restoration project, delivered with outstanding commitment over many years. This project has successfully preserved an important part of local heritage while keeping it firmly rooted within its community.”

Anna Keay, director of the Landmark Trust said: “To be recognised in these two categories, each an expression of one of our two original charitable objects, really shows the continuing excellence of Landmark against our founding aims – enshrined 60 years ago this month.”
