Plans for new floodlights at Farsley Celtic Football Club have been approved by Leeds City Council.
The club has successfully applied to replace the ageing floodlights with new energy efficient ones.
A new LED system would be installed on four 18-metre columns and replace the eight existing 15-metre columns. The club says the new system will reduce glare on neighbouring properties.
A design report submitted by the club said: “Renewal of the existing system is required to update the ageing and failing existing floodlight system – which is expensive to use and maintain – with a modern floodlight system that is more efficient and gives significantly less light pollution.
“It has been accepted that the existing lights have come to their use of their economic life.”
Farsley teamed up with community interest company GrassRoots Power to draw up the plans. The club, which has planning consent for three years to install the new system, would be able to operate the floodlights Monday to Friday 6pm to 10pm and Saturday to Sunday 2pm until 6pm.
It hopes to submit a funding bid to help finance the new lights. The plans can be viewed in full here.
Last month Farsley’s directors confirmed they had applied for a grant to lay a new grass pitch at the ground. The club should hear whether it has been successful in June.
The club was relegated three divisions following a challenging season on and off the pitch. The club had been playing home games almost 70 miles away in Buxton after an aborted attempt to install a new 4G pitch at The Citadel.
In a recent statement, Farsley’s directors admitted they were tempting to ‘stabilise’ finances and that the club was facing difficulties managing its debts. The club, which faces playing in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division next season, has yet to announce pre-season friendlies or new player signings.

Let’s hope they still have a ground to “light up”. Like many I wonder what the owner is planning?
Also don’t know whether any chance of getting rid of the preposterous “Citadel” ?
