A Bramley man is hoping to make a splash for charity by swimming the length of Lake Windermere.
Lake Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, up to a mile wide and 10.5 miles long. Shaun Cox is looking to swim it, end to end, for eight to 10 hours in one day to raise money for the Leeds Early Onset Dementia Hub, run by Inspire North.
Shaun has lived in Bramley his whole life, along with family and parents. He said: “Unfortunately, this disease has directly affected my mum and this was the inspiration behind the challenge.
“However, the bigger picture is about raising some money, for a super cause and making a difference to people directly affected by early-onset dementia in Leeds.”
The Young Dementia Hub offers support and resources for individuals living with early-onset dementia in Leeds. The hub provides a structured program of activities and a creative, less traditional approach to day care. It also offers printed Q&As for people living with Young Onset Dementia, providing valuable information and support for those affected by this condition.
Shaun added: “The help and support offered through this hub is incredible, not only for the person suffering with this cruel disease, but also to their families and carers. It provides a safe space where people feel supported and valued.”
Every penny raised will be donated to the Hub and will be used to help provide vital support to those living with dementia. The money may be spent to replace their pool table, or help upgrade their very out of date kitchen, or any other equipment or activities the Hub needs to better help the people they support.
Shaun is aiming to raise £3,000 and has already started countless hours of training and preparation for the challenge.
