Bramley Care Bears getting stronger and stronger

By Paul Abraham

The Bramley Care Bears are going from strength to strength while providing incredible support and services to the community.

During the Covid pandemic Angela McConnell and her team of volunteers started delivering food parcels for many vulnerable people – and at times this was the only contact some people had with the “outside” world.

Since those difficult times the Bramley Care Bears have become a lifeline for many people within the area with their amazing food banks distribution sessions.

Being a safe, friendly and non-judgemental space the Broadlea Community Centre has seen BCB facilitate “Tech Buddies” sessions to help people to gain experience and knowledge of computers and the internet.

They also host men’s mental self-help group sessions, litter picking sessions, gardening activities and recently started running “No Fuss Photography” workshops for both adults and under 16s bringing knowledge, fun and enjoyment into their photography without all the technical mumbo-jumbo.

The group works with schools to help children working towards gaining their Duke of Edinburgh awards while initiating yearly events at Easter, Halloween and of course their famous Santa’s grotto.

They also become heavily involved in events such as the Big Lunch and they also provide food for children during the school 6 weeks holidays through their Holiday Hunger programme

Exciting developments are in the pipeline to enable the BCB to provide even more support and experience to the most disadvantaged residents in Bramley.

For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page or contact Angela McConnell on 07805 225270.
