This weekend’s parkruns in Armley and Bramley have been cancelled due to the recent wet weather, writes Keely Bannister.

Announcing the decisions on Facebook, both run’s stated the decision had been taken on safety grounds to call off this Saturday 29th meetings following Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis battering the UK over recent weeks.  More rain is forecast today (Friday 28th).

The organisers of Armley Parkrun had originally announced that they would be going ahead with this weekend’s run. A few hours later though they updated that announcement, writing on their Facebook page:

“Hi everyone, unfortunately we have had to reconsider our decision. The up-to-date forecast for rain all through tomorrow, Friday night and Saturday morning is worse than expected.

“With the park sustaining many weeks of wet weather already, we anticipate by Saturday morning it will be extremely muddy, slippy and much of it under water. From a safety point of view and to reduce any excessive wear and tear to the park, we have decided to cancel this Saturday’s event.

“We hope you will join us the following Saturday for International Women’s Day parkrun.”

Bramley’s Jean Hollings posted in the Bramley Park 5k group:

“Following a course inspection today we have taken the decision to cancel Bramley parkrun on Saturday 29th February for your safety.

“We apologise for any disappointment and hopefully will return on the 7th March for International Women’s Day.”
