Racket sport courts will be created at a former mill complex after plans were agreed with the city council.
Two covered padel courts will be built at Swinnow Grange Mills on Stanningley Road in west Leeds.
Council officers approved the proposal after planning permission was sought by the applicant Gems Investments Ltd.
A Leeds City Council report said: “The proposal would provide a community sporting use in an accessible, built up location within an established commercial complex.
“Its scale, design and relationship with surrounding development are acceptable.”
The report said the hours of use would be controlled with a pre-booking system and the site was a suitable distance from nearby homes.
Measures would be in place to prevent glare from floodlights affecting nearby homes.
The council report said: “No unacceptable effects on road safety or the operation of the wider site have been identified.”
The applicant said padel was a fast-growing sport in the UK and users of the courts would have nearby access to public transport links.
Disabled parking would be provided and the courts would be within 300m of nearby bus stops.
A design report said: “The wider site has communal car parking for all businesses operating with Swinnow Grange Mills.
“However as part of this application a further two designated parking spaces will also be included, one of which will be a disabled parking bay.
“The proposed change of use and development will constitute a positive addition not only to Swinnow Grange Mills but to the residential of the wider community.”
A condition attached to the planning permission said the courts should not be used between 11pm and 7am daily.
The installation of floodlighting would be agreed with the council and lights would not used during daylight hours.
The report said: “No external lighting shall be installed until full details of the proposed lighting scheme have been submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority”
