It’s the 80th anniversary of the the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945 on May 8 – when the Allies accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany.
Four days of celebrations have been organised for this year’s anniversary, which will run from Monday, May 5 to Thursday, May 8.

Sunday, 4 May
- Calverley: VE Day 80th Anniversary – A Shared Moment of Celebration, Calverley Methodist Church., 1-4pm
- Calverley: VE Day Celebrations – Swinging 40’s Playlist, The Thornhill, 18 Town Gate, Calverley, 3pm
- Wreath Laying at Troydale Club – 7pm followed by drinks and conversation. All welcome.
Monday, 5 May
- VE Day Event at Farsley St John’s Church – 2pm–4pm. A community event to remember the significance of VE Day.
- Rodley: VE Day Celebrations and The Great Rodley Bake Off!!, Rodley Social Club, 102 Town Street, Rodley, 12pm
Wednesday, 7 May
- Armley: Annual War Graves Walk & Tour, Armley Hill Top Cemetery, Green Hill Road, Leeds, 5pm.
Thursday, 8 May – VE Day
- Horsforth: VE Day Lunch Club, Central Methodist Church, 106 Town Street, 10.30am.
- Bramley: VE Day Commemoration
- Commemoration at Bramley Park War Memorial Bramley, 10.45am
- 11am – Wreath Laying at Farsley Cenotaph
- The Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire will also attend a short service at the War Memorial in Victoria Gardens at 11am to lay wreaths and remember those who served in World War II.
- 11.30am – Wreath Laying at Farsley St John’s Church
- 2pm–4pm – VE Day Event at Hutton Manor Care Home
- 2pm Bramley: BME Singing Group – Singalong to Celebrate 80th Anniversary of VE Day, Bramley Community Centre, Waterloo Lane.
- 6pm Horsforth: VE Day Commemorations, Horsforth Hall Park, Hall Lane.
- 7.30pm – Wreath Laying at Pudsey Cenotaph, followed by drinks at The Royal.
- 7.30pm – Rodley War Memorial – pay your respects to the lives lost from the community.
Saturday, 10 May
There will be a service at Leeds Minster on Saturday, May 10 at 7.30pm. The event, hosted by Lord Mayor of Leeds councillor Abigail Marshall Katung, will include orchestral, choir – including Leeds Philharmonic Chorus – and bagpipe performances. Tickets cost £5.
