The chief executive of Leeds Mind says the decision to sell DeLacey House in Kirkstall is part of wider plans to strengthen how support is delivered across the city..
WLD revealed earlier this month that the former cinema, off Abbey Road, is being marketed with development potential on the Rightmove website for £375,000.
The building was originally known as the Abbey Picture House until it closed in 1960. It became a bingo hall and was most recently used as a hub for Leeds Mind’s community-based employment service.
Lucy Hancock, CEO of Leeds Mind, said that while buildings have historically played an important role in the organisation’s work, most of the charity’s activities now take place directly in communities across Leeds.
She added: “The sale of DeLacey House reflects how Leeds Mind continues to develop. Most of our work already takes place in community venues across Leeds, including Kirkstall, so that we’re making mental health signposting and support more accessible.
“Leeds Mind and WorkPlace Leeds continue to operate out of our office in Horsforth as an administrative and central services base, with a few limited services hosted there.
“As our offer continues to expand, we remain committed to supporting people in Kirkstall and across the city and region, and to ensuring our services are sustainable and accessible for the long term.
“As Leeds Mind continues to evolve, our focus remains on improving mental health and wellbeing across Leeds, ensuring support is available where it is most needed, now and in the future.”

The Rightmove website marketing the building said: “De Lacey House offers accommodation over two floors. At ground floor there is a reception and adjacent waiting room. Beyond these are a variety of open plan working areas and some private offices with male, female and disabled WC.
“At first floor level there is a large open-plan office and beyond it, three meeting rooms, a kitchen and further WCs.”
