Temporary traffic lights warning to allow Pudsey blocked drain work

Drivers using Hough Side Road in Pudsey have been warned that temporary traffic lights will be in operation as Yorkshire Water carry out repair work on a blocked drain.

The work will take place on Yorkshire Water’s Hough Side site, near Whiteley’s Farm, which is due to become a wetland scheme, improving the water quality at Pudsey Beck.

A letter sent to residents says work is due to start on Monday, 8 June. It states temporary traffic lights will be installed for up to a week while stone aggregate is delivered to the site.

Contractors from Keir Infrastructure and Sapphire Utility Solutions will be carrying out the work, which will see vehicle movements from Monday to Sunday between 7am and 5pm.

The letter adds: “While we should be able to keep traffic management to a minimum over the works period, we’re expecting that we’ll have to install some temporary traffic lights, to allow us to deliver some stone aggregate to our site from 8 June 2026, for up to a week.

“We hope our works will be finished by September, but we’re unable to know the full scope of works until a suitable access track is built and investigations can start. We’re speaking with the landowner so that this can go ahead.”

  • Yorkshire Water’s Customer Experience team can be contacted on 0344 848 1099, quoting reference Capital YW.208181.

Council highways chiefs have also said road closures are planned on Rycroft Avenue and Rycroft Drive in Swinnow for carriageway resurfacing works. Work is due to be carried out from Monday, 22 June to Friday, 2 June from 7.30am to 3.30pm each day.
