Heritage Hosts recruited as part of National Volunteer Week will support Bramley Baths project

Heritage Hosts have been recruited to connect people with West Leeds heritage asset Bramley Baths.

Bramley Baths’ The National Lottery Heritage Fund project #Morethanapool was strengthened during this week’s National Volunteers Week by recruiting a team of heritage-inspired volunteers.

A team of seven enthusiasts are taking up volunteer roles as tour guides, speakers and event hosts to support Bramley Baths’ project #Morethanapool by sharing the stories of the baths with the local community, the people of Leeds and visitors from further afield.

The Heritage Hosts will be supporting a programme of pilot activities to bring new audiences to the Baths through a range of heritage, arts, culture and wellbeing activities currently being piloted at this well-known and much-loved heritage asset.

Helen Whiteley, Heritage Engagement Manager at the Baths said: “Our team of Heritage Hosts will play an important part in helping us deliver heritage led activities as part of #Morethanapool. The project is moving forward at pace and having a team of trained and passionate volunteers will help put the Baths on the heritage map, attracting new visitors, allowing us to develop exciting new activities, and ensuring an environmentally sustainable and financially resilient future.”

Investment in #Morethanapool from the Heritage Fund was thanks to money raised by National Lottery players. It is allowing the Baths to realise untapped potential around its heritage and protect and restore the building, ensuring continued long term service delivery and development.

A development grant of £639,375 from the Heritage Fund was awarded in June 2025 for the first phase of a £4.1million project.

This first phase of funding is exploring initial work to restore and protect the unique heritage building and attract new audiences to the Baths through a programme of heritage, arts, culture and wellbeing activities.

The project will protect and secure the building and its unique original features, and ensure its vital services are sustained for the long-term future.
