TCV Hollybush welcomes growers to Potato Day and Seed Swap

By Hazel Smoczynska

TCV Hollybush will be holding its annual Potato Day and Seed Swap on Sunday, 22 February at Hollybush Conservation Centre in Kirkstall.

A Potato Day is an event where gardeners and food growers can buy seed potatoes, choosing from a wide range of varieties, including old favourites, as well as new and unusual potatoes to grow.

Hollybush Potato Day is a family-friendly celebration of the spud and includes potato-themed activities for children. There will also be opportunities to swap seeds for the new growing season, enjoy fire-baked potatoes in the woodland garden, and visit Café 21 @ Hollybush, run by Sunshine and Smiles – Leeds Down Syndrome Network.

The event runs between 11am and 3pm and is free to attend. Parking on site is reserved for Blue Badge holders, but visitors can park five minutes away at Kirkstall Morrisons, with kind permission. Cycle parking is available, and dogs on leads are welcome.

TCV Hollybush Community Hub Manager, Col Powell, said: “Now in its fourth year, Hollybush Potato Day brings the community together for a fun day that marks the beginning of the food-growing year.”

TCV Hollybush is a Conservation Centre in Kirkstall which has been offering volunteering opportunities in nature for over 45 years.

It is part of the national charity The Conservation Volunteers, which connects people together to protect and restore nature, delivering lasting benefits for both.
