Dear sir;- I am commenting on some of the letters received by your paper supporting more development in the region.
It seems that the rapid growth of – especially luxury – developments in Yorkshire has taken away not only a lot of the essence and beauty of the county that makes it so inspirational and a pull to people but also important wildlife habitat when we have reached in the UK a crisis with so many species in decline.
Developments are not like they used to be and part of it is the advertisement of Yorkshire as a wonderful place to be within nature, but this is ruined when the landscape is churned up, countryside turned into driveways for the huge 4x4s, Jaguars and Mercedes that they attract.
Also this means with the huge amount of cars that roads are widened or new ones made and it seems choked with roadworks now in some places?
Not only this but even while money is tight new sports centres are built on fields, when so many need green spaces for mental and physical wellbeing.
Not everyone wants to play football or organised sports and would welcome the chance to enjoy the environment as it is.
Too much has already been done to take away the character of place here, repetitive shopping centres, every few miles a KFC, vape shop or McDonald’s.
While it has been commented that a fish and chip shop might have closed because of the lack of people and new housing is the answer it is probably, sadly, because of the huge amount of fast food places available that have changed the eating habits of people and is so much cheaper.
