Bentley’s, the award-winning Pudsey butchers, has celebrated 25 years in business by baking a special celebratory pie to share with customers.

On his first day’s trading on 25th March 1992, owner Steve Martin had just one employee and his day’s takings amounted to a paltry £5. He now employs 18 staff. Steve said:

“Independent butchers are one of the high street’s success stories. Wherever you go in the UK, on local high streets the butcher is one of the few independent retailers still thriving. Pudsey is a prime example.”

Steve and his team were ‘Great Northern Pork Pie and Sausage Products’ Supreme Champions in 2010 and 2011. They were also ‘Supreme Sausage’ champions in 2011. More recently Bentley’s Scotch Eggs were winners at the Great Northern Pork Pie Competition. Steve added:

“Around 90% of what we sell is locally sourced, so our customers know the provenance of what they’re buying. I think that adds to customer reassurance.

“We also take a keen interest in animal welfare, because that delivers a high quality product and, is again, something that customers look for nowadays. And of course we’re always pleased to offer advice on how to get the best results when cooking our products at home.”
