Bramley & Stanningley Councillor Kevin Ritchie joined Sharon Burke of the Armley-based James Burke Foundation and her band of helpers to create a very poignant event at Park Square in Leeds.

Ninety sets of clothes were placed on the grass to signify the 90 people who have taken their own lives in the past 12 months in Leeds.

The figures of 66 males and 24 females were someone’s brother, sister, father, mother, son, daughter or partner.

The event brought many tears and plenty of discussions and support.

Sharon Burke founded The James Burke Foundation in Leeds after her son James died by suicide in 2017. The foundation raises suicide awareness, promotes mental and physical health, reduces youth suicide rates and educates the public.
