The new community orchard at Hill Top Moor on Hill Top Road is celebrating its first birthday.
While it’s still a few years away from bearing fruit for everyone, Armley Common Right Trust and Fruit Works are organising a celebration picnic this Sunday, 26 April, from 11am to 2pm.
Everyone is welcome, and while they’ll be laying on tea and cake, locals are encouraged to bring a few goodies of their own to share. The event is free to join and open to all ages, and well-behaved dogs.

There will be activities and events laid on at Hill Top Moor for all ages and all skills. Work on Hill Top continues to improve the land, clear dead trees, open up the overgrown areas and plant out wildflowers.
This is a great opportunity to find out more about Hill Top, take part in making signs for the new fruit trees, go for a tree identification walk with specialists, enjoy the good weather and dig into the tea and cake.
Hill Top Moor is part of the Armley Common Right Trust, which looks after the open spaces in Armley on behalf of the local residents.
With a 200+ year history, the Trust is one of the oldest charities in Leeds and its mission is to preserve, protect and maintain the land on behalf of the owners – the people of Armley.
The Fruit Works Co-operative is a social enterprise that helps people to plant and maintain fruit trees in Leeds & Bradford, and they teamed up with the Trust to plant the community orchard in early 2025.
