Christ Church Upper Armley Primary School praised as ‘oasis of calm’ in glowing inspection

A West Leeds primary school has been praised for its exceptional culture of care, kindness and strong Christian values following a highly positive SIAMS inspection.

Christ Church Upper Armley CE Primary School has been described as “an oasis of calm, care and love within the community which it diligently serves”, with inspectors highlighting the warm relationships and inclusive ethos that run through every aspect of school life.

The recent Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) report commends pupils for their behaviour and compassion.

It says: “Pupils consistently show kindness and care towards one another, reflecting a culture where the vision shapes relationships.”

Inspectors were particularly impressed by the way the school’s vision is lived out daily, influencing how pupils treat one another and engage with the wider community.

At the heart of the school’s success, the report adds, are strong relationships built on trust and respect. Inspectors observed that “warm, caring relationships are at the heart of Christ Church Upper Armley,” creating a safe, nurturing environment where pupils feel valued and supported.

Headteacher Ms Sam Collier said she was immensely proud of the school community and the recognition it has received.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our remarkable staff and children. Every day, they live out our vision with compassion, creativity and determination, creating a school where everyone feels valued and able to flourish,” she said.

“This report reflects what I see daily: a community full of heart, hope and joy and I feel incredibly privileged to lead it.”

The inspection highlights how the school’s strong leadership, dedicated staff and clear sense of purpose combine to create an environment where pupils thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Parents and carers are also recognised as key partners in school life, contributing to a strong sense of community around the school.

Development points highlighted in the report include the need to extend opportunities for personal prayer and reflection beyond collective worship and deepen the shared understanding and awareness of spirituality across the school.
