New signs planned for Listed Armley pub

Plans for new signs on a historic Grade II listed Armley pub have been submitted.

Pub owners Greene King want to place four illuminated signs and six non-illuminated signs on the pupular The Malt Shovel pub in Crab Lane, off Town Street.

In a statement accompanying the planning application, Greene King said:

“The proposed signage will by no means have a detrimental effect on the listed building or the surrounding area.

“The signage replacement is for ‘like for like’ replacements, taking into account the history and heritage of the Listed building. The impact will be minimal.”

It adds that the lighting and signage will ‘contribute to the building being used to its full potential’.

The plans can be read in full – and commented upon – here.

Listed building have been afforded special protected status under planning law, but can be sympathetically altered.
