A new group is being formed to help make Stanningley Park a ‘go to’ park in the area.

Residents are being encouraged to help shape the future of the park and set up a Friends of Stanningley Park group at a special meeting on Tuesday, 18 October.

The group, which would be made up of interested local residents, would champion the park, help run events and apply for pots of funding to improve the area from bodies like the National Lottery.

It follows a public consultation carried out by Leeds City Council earlier this year into the future of the park.

The group is being supported by Cllr Kevin Ritchie (Lab, Bramley & Stanningley). He said:

“Following the improvements made to Bramley and Rodley parks over the last few years we are now turning our attention towards Stanningley Park.

“Following an initial consultation it was apparent the community’s ‘asks’ were beyond our available budget.

“Setting up a ‘Friends of’ Group allows us to apply for other grant funding to enable us to develop a ‘go-to’ park serving the needs of all our community.

“The Bramley and Stanningley councillors would encourage everybody to come along to have your say and help shape and develop the park as you would like it over the next few years.”

The meeting will be held at Stanningley Rugby Club from 7pm to 8pm.

Friends of Armley Park meeting

Meanwhile the fledgling Friends of Armley Park group, which held its first meeting last month, is holding a committee meeting on Thursday, October 13, 8pm at Gotts Park Golf Club.
