Plans for eight new workshop and office units have moved a step closer to reality at the Springfield Mills site in Farsley.
Bosses at the business centre have commissioned regional contractors to design and build the new units, due to demand from the growing e-commerce sector, who are increasingly looking for modern and flexible spaces for their expanding operations.

The units each consist of a ground floor workshop and first floor office space with dedicated parking. The units will incorporate a mix of traditional and modern design, and include energy saving measures.
Gaunts Ltd run Springfield Mills and is based at the Bagley Lane site. Director Chris Pratt said: “We receive many enquiries from businesses for this kind of space, so it made sense from a practical and environmental point of view, to fulfil this demand using the existing land we have here.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for us and for new local and regional companies looking to expand. We’re pleased to be working with OGL Construction, Shelby Group (Project Management Consultancy) and architects Bowman Riley from the start on all aspects of design, build, costings and detailed plans.”
The six-acre site, a successful woollen and textile mill in its day, is a thriving business centre for over 60 businesses including those in the retail, leisure, industrial, IT and commercial sectors but this is the first time in 50 years that a new building has been constructed on site.
Tom Wood, MD, OGL Construction, added: “Units of this size allow small online businesses and other enterprises to store a variety of goods, have the office space to accommodate staffing needs, with room to grow. The space needs to be exceedingly flexible and be able to accommodate new ideas, just like the business itself.”

Cllr Andrew Carter (Cons, Calverley & Farsley) supported the project. He said: ”I am delighted with the progress they have been making here at Springfield Mills and the way the whole project has been conceived and developed.
“It’s looking wonderful and it’s marvellous to see well-known local firm Gaunts expanding, whilst also providing space and opportunities for other local businesses to grow too by creating these new commercial spaces.”
Gaunts Ltd is a family-owned company dating back to 1896. As well as textile mill sites in Leeds they have an expanding range of commercial properties, across West and North Yorkshire including Skipton, Knaresborough, Ilkley and Shipley. Any businesses interested in the units can contact Chris on 0113 236 3555.
