New affordable houses welcomed in Swinnow

Eight new affordable homes have just been completed for local housing association Connect Housing on Harley Green, Swinnow.

The properties have two bedrooms and are designed to be highly energy-efficient. They have been built on a former garage site, the only Leeds City Council-owned housing site in the Pudsey ward big enough to sustain a development.

Councillor Richard Lewis (Lab, Pudsey), who has been involved with the scheme from the beginning, says he’s ‘relieved’ to see it finally delivered. He said:

“It’s been a long hard slog with this scheme. It was even shelved for two years when government changes to housing association finance rules made it unviable. Now I’ve seen the finished product, I can say the pain was worth it.”
