Ahead of the Leeds City Council elections, WLD is running election comments from the major political parties.
Polling day is Thursday, 7 May and results will be announced the following day.
Here’s what Labour had to say to local democracy reporter Don Mort:
Making the streets safer is among the Labour Party’s aims for the city following the local elections.
The party, which currently controls Leeds City Council, said dedicated local teams would keep the streets clean.
Labour said a named police officer for each neighbourhood would help crack down on nuisance e-bikes and scooters.
Group leader James Lewis said the council was investing in projects including the East Leeds Orbital Route and speeding up pothole repairs with £13m of funding.
He said: “We all know that Leeds is a city full of potential, and we want to make sure that potential is met and felt in every neighbourhood.”
Coun Lewis, who represents Kippax and Methley, said tackling the cost-of-living crisis and building new homes were among the priorities.
He said: “Whether it’s by cleaning up our streets, protecting residents from the cost of living crisis, building new council houses or improving our roads, we are committed to making life better for people across Leeds.
“Leeds Labour will continue building on the momentum we already have, investing in our communities and delivering on our plan to ensure Leeds is a thriving city for all.”
