Concerns over road safety in Kirkstall have scuppered plans for a car valeting service in Morrison’s car park.
The 3m by 5m unit would have also had a large canopy attached and would have taken up nine car parking bays.
But a Leeds City Council planning officer’s report says the development would have a detrimental effect on highways safety. It says:
“It is … considered that estimated parking that the facility would require would be in the region of 18 – 20 spaces, as staff parking would be required as well as parking bays for vehicles waiting to be washed and spaces for vehicles waiting to be collected.
“As such, given the lack of parking provided, it is considered that at busy peak times the flow of customers entering the site would be disrupted and this in turn would obstruct the free flow of traffic on the adjacent highway network to the detriment of safety for all road users.
“It is also of note that there are several standalone businesses (Timpson key cutting, We Buy Any Car, a second-hand clothes cabin) currently proposed all within the existing parking area.”
WLD has reported on local objections to the Webuyanycar.com proposals in the same car park. That application has yet to be decided.
